A few weeks ago we spent a pretty fantastic weekend with friends at Convict Lake, a gorgeous mountain lake about a half-hour north of Bishop, Calif., for my friend Curtis’ birthday. Though frigid from snow runoff (48 degrees!), the lake is beautiful and pristine, and a few of us – because we’re idiots – had a blast jumping into the water from a rented pontoon boat and then paddling like hell to get back on the boat before our blood crystalized. We spent the next day thawing out in an equally amazing – and quite a bit warmer – set of semi-secret hot springs nearby known mostly only to locals. Fortunately, one of our friends was local! In hindsight, perhaps we should have gone there the night before when it was cold outside rather than mid-afternoon on a warm day, but it was a pretty unique experience nonetheless as we were the only people around for miles. Adding this location to my “Why I love California” list and definitely heading back next chance!

More photos from the trip are after the…
